A born and bred Bermudian, Emily Nagel started sailing at age 10, even though she wasn’t raised in a sailing family. She raced small, light beginner boats in her youth, but realized her real talent for sailing when she started placing in European and world championships. Now mentored by legendary ORACLE Team USA skipper Jimmy Spithill, the 22-year rising star competes for Team Bermuda in the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup. She was chosen by Spithill to be on an exploratory foiling mission from New York back to her home nation with some of the best sailors the America’s Cup has ever known.
“I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing when I got told that I'd be on a boat with the Oracle guys, and that Jimmy Spithill would be there,” she admitted. “The learning curve of getting to sail with people with that kind of experience is just incredible. I just want to learn as much as I can about foiling and about offshore sailing."
